COMMUNITY NOTIFICATION
RELATIVE TO SEX OFFENDER LAW

As part of the recently passed Sex Offender Registry Law, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has nearly completed the classification of all registered sex offenders. Once classified, the communities where a sex offender resides or works shall be notified of the level assigned to each sex offender registered Communities must then make notifications to eligible civic and community groups and organizations. A Level III sex offender is one who has a high risk of re-offense. A Level II sex offender is one who has a moderate risk of re-offense.

The Easton Police Department, in compliance with Mass General Law, Chapter 6, Section 187K, is requesting any eligible community group or civic organization that desires to be notified of a Level II or Level III sex offender that your group or organization is likely to encounter as a result of said offender residing or working within our community to contact our Department.The purpose for this request is to enable your group, and its members, to be properly notified once the classification process has been completed by the State. This would include, but may not be limited to, the following types of organizations:

-Schools, public and private
-Boy Scouts of America
-Licensed day care facilities
-Local merchant associations
-Neighborhood organizations
-Boys and Girls Clubs
-Girl Scouts of America
-Religious and Youth Organizations
-Sports and entertainment facilities'
whether public or private
-All public meeting facilities
-All volunteer and community organizations which come into contact with children. All other organizations who are eligible to receive such notification and have provided mailing address information to our Department.

If your group is eligible under the law and your information is known at our Department, the following sexual offender record information relative to a Level II or Level III sex offender shall be disseminated to your group upon receipt of said information:

his/her name, home address, work address, age, sex, race, height, weight, eye and hair color, and their offense information including the offense committed and the dates of conviction. In addition, a photograph of the subject. if available. may be viewed at the Easton Police Department during normal business hours Monday through Friday or by appointment.

Please contact the Easton Police Department and provide the name of your group or organization, the contact person a telephone number, and a mailing address. If your group is eligible to receive sex offender record information, it shall be disseminated.
